Transcription: Southern Arizona is peppered with mountains that stand out of the landscape like islands. In fact, they're called mountain islands. As you climb higher and higher, temperatures drop, humidity increases, and trees like firs and oaks replace the saguaros and palo verde, forming belts of forest around the mountain. At the top of the highest mountains, a kind of arctic tundra blankets the exposed peaks beyond the treeline.
